Bad logo, good golf
World Woods in Brooksville and its map-of-the-world logo have the dubious honor of appearing in this month's issue of Golf Digest. "The world map is so small, it looks like a squished bug," said the magazine, which ranks the Pine Barrens course 26th among the Top 100 Public Courses. Of the 10 that made the worst logo list, Golf Digest said: "If you own a shirt from one of these courses or clubs, you obviously bought it despite the logo." A strong Concession Golf Digest praised another area course, calling the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton America's Best New Private Course of 2006. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin and built in honor of their 1969 Ryder Cup match in which Nicklaus "conceded" a final par putt to Jacklin, it measures 7,470 yards and costs $150,000 to join. Pars worth millions Players go low every week on the PGA Tour, but par has its rewards - to the tune of $2.4-million. That amount is about what a player would have earned had he averaged par for 72 holes for 43 weeks on the 2006 tour. It would have been good enough for 25th on the money list and would have won the U.S. Open at Winged Foot in Mamaroneck, N.Y., where champion Geoff Ogilvy totaled 5 over.
