Former Department of Children and Families Secretary Lucy Hadi is a candidate for a position being created in the Department of Education, a DOE spokeswoman said Friday.
Last month, Hadi said she would not ask incoming Gov. Charlie Crist, who took office Tuesday, to reappoint her to the DCF job she held for two years under Gov. Jeb Bush.
Crist then named former Florida Attorney General Bob Butterworth to succeed her.
Hadi has been recommended to Education Commissioner John Winn for a new job overseeing work force education, DOE spokeswoman Cathy Schroeder said.
Slain 6-year-old was sexually assaulted
A 6-year-old girl found dead in the woods near her home was sexually assaulted and more than one person was involved, authorities said Friday.
Coralrose Fullwood's body was found in the woods two blocks from her home Sept. 17, hours after her parents reported her missing from her bed.
"The preliminary autopsy ... indicated no obvious signs of sexual battery," North Port police Chief Terry Lewis said. "Now, we have forensics evidence indicating a sexual battery did in fact occur."
No one has been arrested in the slaying.
CRIST MAKES FRASER LEGISLATIVE AIDE
Gov. Charlie Crist named an aide to former Florida House Speaker Allan Bense as his legislative affairs director Friday.
Towson Fraser was communications director for Bense, R-Panama City. He had held similar jobs with two state departments and Florida's Republican Party.
Crist also named Melanie DiMuzio his director of appointments. She worked in Crist's campaign as political director and scheduler for his running mate, Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp.
Crist on Friday also ordered special elections to replace former state Rep. Holly Benson, R-Pensacola, whom he named secretary of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation Dec. 28. The primary will be Feb. 6 and the general election Feb. 27 in the district covering parts of Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
