Pet 'Neuterthon' is set for Jan. 15-31

COUNTYWIDE Stop Pet Overpopulation Together and local veterinarians are teaming up for a Neuterthon event Jan. 15-31. Any cat or dog that is at least eight weeks old can be signed up. Special prices are male cats, $35; female cats, $40; male dogs, $40 and female dogs, $45 to $90, depending on weight. Vouchers can be obtained online at www.spotusa.org or call 545-3463. COUNTYWIDE Send your sweetie a barbershop serenade What could be more romantic for Valentine's Day than a serenade from an old-fashioned barbershop quartet? The Barbershop Harmony Society will send a quartet anywhere in Pinellas or Pasco counties to sing a classic love song and present your Valentine with a silk rose and parchment scroll. The singing Valentines are available Feb. 10-14, starting at $50. Appointments are limited. Countywide YMCA to offer program to ease pain of divorce The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is offering a new program for divorced and separated adults called DivorceCare. The group is led by professionals who assist in the recovery from the pain and separation of divorce. Seminars begin on Jan. 11 and will be held every Thursday through April 5. Pageant returns after one-year hiatus The Miss Seminole Pageant is back after organizer Henny Hlas took a year off. Hlas is hunting for contestants. The pageant is the first step on the road to the Miss America pageant. Contestant requirements: Be aged 17-24, hold U.S. citizenship, must have never been married or had children, and must either live, work, attend school or volunteer in Pinellas County. COUNTYWIDE Adult volunteers needed to mentor children Gulf Coast Community Care needs volunteers ages 30 and older to spend a few hours a week mentoring a child 10 to 14 years old from a single-parent home or in foster care. COUNTYWIDE Want to be a clown? There's a school for that If you've always secretly dreamed of being a clown, here's your chance. Applications are available for the All Children's Hospital Clown Alley School. Students will learn character definition, makeup, costuming and performance techniques from Christine Davison, a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown School graduate. Classes start at 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at All Children's Hospital Education Conference Center, 710 Fourth St. S. The program ends March 28. Children and adults are welcome to apply. The cost is $17 a person, $5 for each additional family member. Participants will be invited to join the Festival of States Day Parade on March 31 and the Progress Energy Illuminated Night Parade on April 13.
