Basketball: Today
USF at No. 10 Pittsburgh
By GREG AUMAN
Published January 7, 2007
When/where: Noon; Petersen Events Center Records: USF 9-6, 0-1 Big East; Pittsburgh 13-2, 1-0 TV/radio: Ch. 28; 1250-AM Notable: Pittsburgh was the league preseason champion, and the Panthers haven't disappointed, led by preseason MVP Aaron Gray, a 7-foot, 270-pound center who has averaged 15.2 points and 10.7 rebounds. ... USF actually is 2-0 against Pitt, most recently a 69-63 win in 2001. ... The game could come down to guards taking care of the ball: Pitt leads the league in assists and assist-turnover ratio, and USF is second-worst in the latter. Freshman point guard Solomon Bozeman will have to hold his own against sophomore Levance Fields. It's a huge test, too, for junior Kentrell Gransberry (13.5 ppg, 10.8 rpg) to hold his own against Gray. ... Walk-on guard Eddie Lovett, who played 27 minutes against Bethune-Cookman, had been listed as a senior but has another year of eligibility and will be back next season.
