Basketball: Tonight
FSU at No. 2 North Carolina
By BRIAN LANDMAN
Published January 7, 2007
When/where: 7; Smith Center, Chapel Hill. TV/radio: FSN; 1470-AM. Records: FSU 12-3, 0-1 ACC; UNC 13-1, 0-0. Notable: The Seminoles saw their eight-game winning streak end Wednesday against visiting No. 23 Clemson, but they can more than make up for it with their first victory in Chapel Hill since January 2000. ... This matchup, in particular, should underscore either how far FSU's undersized frontcourt has come or how far it still must progress. UNC is loaded up front with big bodies who all have game: 6-9 sophomore forward Tyler Hansbrough (18.1 ppg, 7.4 rpg), 6-9 freshman forward Brandan Wright (15.4 ppg, 6.5 rpg) and 6-8 senior forward Reyshawn Terry (10.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg). ... Sophomore forward Uche Echefu, FSU's tallest player at 6-9 who nearly went to UNC, is more effective away from the basket. That means the Seminoles may continue to use 6-8 freshman forward Ryan Reid (3.9 rpg, 10 blocks) more and more. ... The Tar Heels have won 10 straight since a loss to Gonzaga. ... UNC leads the series 34-8, including four straight wins. Brian Landman, Times staff writer
