Tampa taking fast boat to China trade Seems like everyone's got a business deal bubbling in China. Now the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce is diving into the cauldron. The chamber plans its first trade mission to China in the fall. It's inspired by the recent start of container shipping between Shanghai and Tampa's port. A second mission, to Panama, is coming this spring. An expansion of that nation's canal could spawn contracts for area businesses, chamber president Kim Scheeler said. The Donald Jr. to lead seminars Serve up another helping of New York chutzpah. Overexposed tycoon Donald Trump is sending his associates and namesake to the Tampa area for financial seminars starting next week. Randal Pinkett and Sean Yazbeck starred on Trump's TV show, The Apprentice. Now they're plugging investment tips as part of the oh-so-modestly named "Trump Institute." On Feb. 1, at Clearwater's Belleview Biltmore, Donald Trump Jr. will share financial secrets gleaned from his dad. Trump Sr. is known locally for lending his name to a still-to-be-built Tampa condo tower. That pricey stuff just doesn't fly When it comes to airport shopping, a lot more people are looking for hamburger than steak. Two of the newer shops at Tampa International Airport know that lesson well. Bijoux Terner sells costume jewelry, watches, scarves and totes all for the same price - a cool $10. Sales for November hit nearly $80,000, more than double what Aviation Inc., a pricey airplane model shop, totaled in the same space a year earlier. Ron Jon Surf Shop replaced high-end apparel retailer Golf America in 2005. Ron Jon sold $108,000 in T-shirts, caps and such in November, twice Golf America's take two years earlier. Florida now 4th in job 'insourcing' After all the bad things spouted about outsourcing jobs, it's good to know Florida ranks among the best in the nation for "insourcing." It's the term for jobs created here by foreign firms. About 238,400 Floridians work for non-American companies, placing the state fourth behind California, New York and Texas. A local example is Nielsen Media Research in Oldsmar, owned by a Dutch conglomerate. The numbers were compiled from U.S. government data.
