Authors give a voice to written creations

Mystic River author Dennis Lehane and others will be at an Eckerd conference.

Noted author Dennis Lehane and David Simon, writer and producer of HBO's The Wire, will appear at the Writers in Paradise Conference, Jan. 20-27 at Eckerd College. In its third year, the conference offers writers an opportunity to discuss their craft with experts and peers and to read and critique each other's work.

Evening readings with featured authors from 8 to 9 p.m. at Miller Auditorium are free and open to the public. Eckerd College is at 4200 54th Ave. S, St. Petersburg. The following is a partial schedule and is subject to change.

Jan. 20

Tom Perrotta (Bad Haircut, Wishbone, JoeCollege and Election) was nominated for a Golden Globe for the movie adaptation of Little Children.

Jan. 21

Les Standiford (Spill, Done Deal, Raw Deal and Deal to Die For, and Last Train to Paradise: Henry Flagler and the Spectacular Rise and Fall of the Railroad that Crossed an Ocean).

JAN. 25

David Simon, author, journalist and Emmy-winning television producer.

Jan. 27

Dennis Lehane, 1988 Eckerd graduate and author of seven novels.
