Shelf life

Look for these new items on your grocery store shelves. Special K goes chocolate Special K Chocolatey Delight cereal combines lightly toasted rice cereal with chocolate pieces for a breakfast or snack. Each serving has 120 calories, and with a 1/2 cup of fat-free milk, it contains 160 calories. The suggested retail price is $3.89. Whole-grain Fig Newtons If you're trying to add more whole grains to your diet, try Fig Newton Minis. Each bag of the bite-sized bars, made with whole wheat, provides 2 grams of fiber. If you like regular Fig Newtons, these should satisfy, too. At 130 calories per 11/3-ounce bag, it's a guilt-free indulgence. A six-pack box is $2.98 at Wal-Mart Supercenters. More from soup from Amy Amy's Organic Soups has added two flavors: Tom Kha Phak (Thai Coconut) and Tuscan Bean & Rice. The Thai soup is heartier than some other canned Thai coconut soups, with a vegetable lineup that includes sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans and shiitake mushrooms, but preserves the rich flavor that makes the soup a favorite on restaurant menus. With tofu subbing for the usual chicken, it's also vegan. Treat it as an occasional indulgence, though: Each serving, of just under 1 cup, contains more than half a day's allotment of saturated fat. Suggested retail for each 14.1-ounce can is $2.29. Seriously mint cookies Keebler Right Bites' fudge-dipped mint cookies give Girl Scout Thin Mints serious competition, all in a 100-calorie package. The doughnut-shaped Fudge Shoppe Grasshoppers don't taste like the stripped-down indulgences of some other snack packs, such as the 100-calorie Oreos without any cream filling. They've got a rich, indulgent flavor that had tasters reaching for more. Cinna Bites, a graham cracker in the same line, can't pull off the same feat. A blast of cinnamon flavor can't overcome the crackers' dry taste. Suggested retail is $2.89 for a box of six. The show debuts Friday with back-to-back episodes from Seattle and Miami. Giada's Weekend Getaways premieres Friday at 9 p.m. with another segment airing at 9:30. Starting Jan. 19, tune in Friday nights at 9:30. .
