Balm: A developer on Wednesday won county commissioners' approval to build 215 single-family homes northwest of Balm-Wimauma Road and Sweat Loop roads. AN Development asked to modify planned development zoning for 164 acres, reducing the number of units that would face a golf course. The developer also reduced the total number of units from 230 to 215. The project includes 6,000 square feet for commercial uses. Petition 07-0225

Ruskin: Owners of an RV park got the security guard's residence they wanted Wednesday, along with permission to raise the height of a perimeter fence from 6 feet to 8 feet. Park N Shade RV and Boat Storage of Ruskin sits on 28 acres east of U.S. 41 and south of 15th Avenue NE. Commissioners also adopted a resolution to designate 18 acres of the Park N Shade property as a "brownfield," a government classification that gives tax breaks to owners who clean up their properties.

Under an agreement with the state's Department of Environmental Protection, Park N Shade will fund a $6.1-million cleanup of environmental contamination so that the property can be restored for boat and recreational vehicle storage. Petition 06-1799

County: Hillsborough County held a public hearing Wednesday on possible amendments to its land development code, adding details on the criteria for revoking alcohol beverage permits for special events. No commissioner raised questions on the issue, which returns for a second public hearing on Jan. 23.
