TRINITY - The Pasco Police Athletic League has lost two teams and gained two this decade.

Next season, that number will increase by one with Trinity becoming the 11th member of the youth football and cheerleading organization.

"We've been wanting to add Trinity for a couple of years now, with all that growth," said Ted Mounts, PPAL's community director.

The league approved expanding to the west Pasco community at Monday's board meeting. Home games will be played at Mitchell High and practice held at Seven Springs Middle.

Former PPAL programs at East Lake and Tarpon Springs switched to a league in Pinellas County in recent years. Wesley Chapel and New Tampa were part of the PPAL's 2001 expansion.

Other programs in the league are located in Dade City, Hudson, Land O'Lakes, Lutz, New Port Richey, Shady Hills, West Hernando and Zephyrhills.

The Mustangs, boys and girls between the ages of 5-15, debut at the PPAL jamboree in mid August. West Hernando hosts this year's preseason kickoff with league officials discussing Brooksville Central and Nature Coast as host sites.

Defending champions, who won PPAL Super Bowls in November, include three New Tampa teams and two from Lutz. Dade City had four squads in division finals.

The PPAL was founded in 1976 by former Pasco Sheriff John Short and is the county's oldest youth football and cheerleading program.
