BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Melanie Worthington was dying of cancer when she began making videotapes of her family's time together so her 5-year-old son would remember her. "We taped her making cookies with him, playing up at the cabin, anything that he might need to look back on and see how they did things together," said her mother, Carla Worthington. Now, almost everything is gone. A few weeks after Worthington's death at age 39, robbers walked into her parents' home Dec. 10 and stole two videorecorders and almost all of the tapes. "It was like someone had come out and taken her away from us a second time," her sister Marnie told the Grand Rapids Press. Detectives had no suspects Friday, Ottawa County sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett said. Worthington's mother said the family could offer a reward of about $200. "I guess I'm hoping for some kind of miracle," she said.
