LAND O'LAKES - Roberto Cervantes lofted a shot toward the net from roughly 30 yards away.
The ball sliced through a heavy headwind, snuck beneath the crossbar and secured a 2-1 Pasco victory against host Land O'Lakes.
The win gave the Pirates their first undefeated regular season and the Sunshine Athletic Conference title.
Pasco's senior midfielder even earned praise from Gators coach Mark Pearson, who is often conservative when it comes to praising the opponent.
"Roberto Cervantes is a fantastic player," Pearson said. "It was a great goal.
"What can you say? Not many people in our county or in the state would have hit that shot."
The contest matched arguably Pasco County's two best teams in a game that was physical, well balanced and with plenty of opportunity on both sides.
The Pirates (17-0-2, 8-0 in SAC) snapped a scoreless tie with Land O'Lakes (18-4-2, 7-2) in the second half on a goal by Pasco midfielder James Sumner.
Gators goalkeeper Alex Spock helped shift moment in his team's favor by stopping a penalty kick by Ramon Rodriquez.
Moments later, Land O'Lakes sophomore Dominic Cutrofello found forward Felix Soto breaking through the middle for the tying goal.
Pasco had one more chance to put it away on a sharp blast by Jose Montelongo that deflected off the upper right corner of the net followed by the Cervantes game-winner.
