Police nabbed a man in South Florida who they say raped three women in Hillsborough County five years ago.
DNA evidence has linked Javier Alba, 37, of 537 Southwest 37 Ave., No. 3, in Miami, to sexual assaults committed in 2001 against three Tampa women, Hillsborough sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
Alba was arrested Jan. 9 by Coral Gables police in connection with a sexual assault unrelated to Tampa.
In each of the Hillsborough County cases, Carter said, the women were entering or leaving their apartments when Alba grabbed them and forced them into their homes, where he assaulted them.
The 2001 attacks occurred in the area of W Waters and N Manhattan avenues as follows: at 11:50 p.m. on May 3 against a 21-year-old woman; at 11:10 p.m. on Oct. 11 against a 19-year-old woman; and at 10:15 p.m. on Dec. 12 against a 25-year-old woman.
Alba's DNA is also connected to two other sexual assaults committed in Miami-Dade County, authorities there said.
According to the Miami Herald, Alba is an X-ray technician with no prior criminal history in the state.
