Agent lacked license to sell insurance
By TIMES STAFF
Published January 20, 2007
Between July and mid November last year, at the Bauknight insurance agency on U.S. 19, Pamela Sue Harrington sold nearly 260 policies. But she had no license to do so, authorities said. The state had revoked it the previous January because, according to the Department of Financial Services, she had misappropriated funds from another insurance agency in Naples. The state agency said Bauknight would be responsible for the policies Harrington sold. No one answered the phone at the Bauknight agency Friday when the Times called for comment. Harrington, 40, of 7812 Firestone Way, Port Richey, was arrested Thursday and charged with selling insurance without a license - a third-degree felony - and obtaining property in return for worthless checks. She was released from the Land O'Lakes jail the same day on $6,500 bail. Sheriff seeks funds for temporary jail To curb jail overcrowding, the Pasco Sheriff's Office wants county commissioners to approve the acquisition of a temporary jail. The 100-bed facility is needed because the Land O'Lakes jail expansion won't be done until July 2008, according to a recommendation by the county purchasing department. The construction and two-year lease of the temporary jail would cost $653,000. Starkey's will end riding, petting Bad news for fans of J.B.
