Lightning president charged with DUI

Ron Campbell, president of the Tampa Bay Lightning and St. Pete Times Forum, was arrested early Saturday morning by Tampa police on suspicion of drunken driving, according to authorities.

Campbell, 51, was pulled over at 1:10 a.m. on Dale Mabry Highway near Lemon Street, according to jail records. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He was booked into the county jail for driving under the influence and released about 9:30 a.m. after posting bail.

Campbell released a statement through team spokesman Bill Wickett Saturday saying: "The experience is very humbling and embarrassing for me, but more importantly, for my family and the organization. Because of that, I am very apologetic and remorseful."

Campbell, who was arrested about 3 miles from his Sunset Park area home, joined the Lightning staff in the summer of 1999. He is in his eighth year as president, according to the team's Web site.

Campbell is responsible for all day-to-day aspects of the organization, including sales, marketing, finance, team operations and arena management.
