Ebony Fashion Fair is coming Feb. 5

High fashion comes to the Mahaffey with the 49th annual Ebony Fashion Fair at 8 p.m. Feb. 5 in the elegant theater, 400 First St. S.

This year's theme is "Stylishly Hot," and the show features the latest styles by world famous designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Jean Louis Scherrer.

The world's largest traveling fashion show, it will visit more than 180 cities in the United States and Canada. All ticket prices include a one-year subscription to Ebony magazine or a six-month subscription to JET magazine and chances to win a variety of prizes.

Since its inception in 1958, the show has donated more than $54-million to charity.

Locally, proceeds will benefit the community service projects of the Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Longtime Gibbs coach Al Davis to be honored

Former Gibbs High School football coach Al Davis will be honored Saturday with a 3 p.m. ceremony at Gibbs High School, 850 34th St. S.

The public is invited to the event, which is being organized by the Gibbs Alumni Association.

Davis ended a 16-year coaching career at Gibbs in November.

Clothes To Kids needs winter coats, volunteers

Clothes To Kids, which provides new and quality used clothing to low-income Pinellas County children in grades K-12, needs winter coats. Donations can be dropped off 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday at 1059 N Hercules Ave., Clearwater. Monetary donations can be mailed to: P.O. Box 184, Dunedin, FL 34697-0184. Volunteers also are needed.
