Editors note: The following is a recap of last week's news events in Citrus County, in the words of newsmakers.

"We still have the projects on the table but how are you going to pay for them? Somebody has to pay the bill."

County Commissioner Gary Bartell, commenting on a suggestion by fellow Commissioner Dennis Damato to go with a lower impact fee increase than was recommended by a consultant.

"We are very happy that Mr. Murphy was not seriously injured. This senseless situation almost became a tragedy."

Crystal River police Chief Stephen Burch, on an incident in which a man is accused of striking another man with a pistol during a traffic dispute.

"These are 5-foot-tall birds that can kill with a single strike."

Chris Danilko of Operation Migration, on one of the reasons why whooping cranes are kept away from human beings.

"When you're downtown walking around, we want you to feel like you're back in the day when people walked around and did window shopping."

Ken Kich, Inverness development director, on the new streetscape project about to begin in the downtown business district.

"We had a few guys with academic problems and I decided I'm tired of putting up with this. I'm going to do it the right way."

Rich Billings, assistant baseball coach at Lake-Sumter Community College, on why the school offered a scholarship to Nick DelGuidice, who impressed the coaching staff with his baseball skills, a solid work ethic, and a 3.5 grade point average.

"It would be the only loan you ever had that you wouldn't stand behind."

Dale McClelland of M&B Dairy in Lecanto, to Jack Reynolds of the Economic Development Council and Homosassa Springs Bank, as he was discussing possible financing for plans he has to market cow manure in products such as potting soil.
