TAMPA - It might feel a little more like home away from home for four Jefferson players - offensive lineman Mike Williams, tight end Byron McLeod, defensive lineman DeMarcus Cleveland and defensive back Mike Brown - who orally committed to Middle Tennessee State after a group over the weekend.
"I think it will be great for them being all together," Jefferson coach Mike Fenton said. "Being away and playing college football can be a very, very tough thing. But now they'll have each other to lean on."
Williams, who recently received the Jimbo Kynes Award as Hillsborough County's best lineman, might have been the most highly recruited of the bunch. He chose MTSU over Indiana, N.C. State and Florida A&M.
BUC NOW A RAIDER: As expected, versatile Berkeley Prep offensive lineman Colin Boss has joined the convoy of local recruits to Middle Tennessee.
Boss confirmed his commitment to the Blue Raiders on Monday after returning from his third visit to the Murfreesboro campus. He also had visited Charleston Southern and had received offers from Murray State and Central Michigan.
"I enjoyed the campus and liked the programs they offer and stuff," said Boss, recruited as an interior lineman by the Raiders. "They have a real good criminal justice program and that's what I'm looking to major in. The new coaching staff is as good as you can get."
Times staff writer Joey Knight contributed to this report.
