For those who received a free home inspection through the My Safe Florida Home program, here's something the state wants you to know: Your report and a grant application are in the mail.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink announced the distribution of the inspection reports and applications in a news release Monday. About 14,000 homeowners received inspections during the initial phase of the program, which seeks to fortify homes against hurricanes.

Homeowners who chose to make recommended improvements are eligible to receive matching grants from the state for as much as $5,000. The homeowners will be required to use state-approved contractors, whose names will begin appearing on the program's Web site.

To participate in the program, a homeowner must live in a single-family, site-built home with an insured value of $500,000 or less and have a valid homestead exemption. For more information, go to www.mysafefloridahome .com or call toll-free 1-800-342-2762.
