Man sentenced for campground fraud

A former Oldsmar business owner was sentenced to three years in prison on a charge of mail fraud relating to campground memberships Tuesday. David Cannon, 62, of Chicago, was the owner of Tampa Bay Campground Brokers. According to court records, he contacted people interested in selling their campground memberships and said he had a prospective buyer. For an upfront fee, Cannon said, he would connect the seller with the buyer. He also offered to refund the fee if the transaction didn't close. But in reality, there were no prospective buyers. He pleaded guilty to one charge of mail fraud in August.

Now, Kenneth Carr, a 44-year-old carpenter from Jacksonville, faces charges of tampering with a grave, jail records show. He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail Monday and was held without bail Tuesday evening. Deputies don't know what happened to the urn or the ashes, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.
