Ron and Nancy Forbes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary a day early, on Dec. 19, 2006, surrounded by family at a dinner and a cake-cutting ceremony at Steak and Ale Restaurant in Clearwater.

Nancy came to St. Petersburg in 1944 from Lynn, Mass., and Ron arrived two years later, from Abescon, N.J. They both attended St. Petersburg High School and were married Dec. 20, 1956, in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg.

Ron served for a brief time in the Navy, and in 1960, he began a 15-year career as a police officer with the city of Pinellas Park, attaining a lieutenant's rank. He then became Pinellas Park's finance director and later served as acting city manager and city manager until his retirement in 1995.

Nancy's career began in data processing for the city of Pinellas Park, then Pinellas County. She then became data processing manager for several private financial institutions. She created an information storage business called "Word Concepts by Forbes," and retired from Raymond James Financial in 1991.

Both are members of First United Methodist Church in Pinellas Park. Ron serves on various committees and as a chair member. Nancy is in the Women's Circle.

The couple has four grown children and 10 grandchildren.

A StarLight cruise was the romantic setting for Herby and Ann Glickstein's 60th wedding anniversary.

The Glicksteins were married on Jan. 18, 1947 in New York City and moved from New York to Dunedin in 1990. Before retiring, Herby worked as a truck driver and Ann was a file clerk for the Social Security Administration. They have four children and 11 grandchildren.

"My hubby and I enjoy people and believe in helping wherever we can," said Ann.

The couple are active at the Hale Senior Center. Both volunteer at local nursing homes as entertainers and participate in various functions at Patrician Oaks.
