Concert: Singer, songwriter and pianist Kathy Shooster will perform at 6 p.m. Saturday at Shoresh David Messianic Synagogue, 33425 State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public. Call (813) 831-5673.

Florida horror authors: Carrollwood's Barnes & Noble bookseller, 11802 N Dale Mabry Highway, will host a reading and book signing by several horror, fantasy, thriller and paranormal romance writers from throughout Florida, 1-4 p.m. Friday. Call (813) 962-6446.

Carrollwood Players: The show Last Night of Ballyhoo runs through Saturday. Performances are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Carrollwood Playhouse, 4335 Gunn Highway. Tickets are $14 for adults, and $12 for children, seniors over age 55 and students with ID.

The theater group is seeking scripts for its annual One-Act Weekend. The plays must be original, require minimal sets, props and costumes. Submissions should be postmarked no later than May 1 and be sent to P.O. Box 270116, Tampa, FL 33688. A $10 entry fee is required. Include street address, telephone number and e-mail address. Broadway Theatre Project: The musical theater program held at the University of South Florida will take place July 8-29. Live auditions will take place at 10 a.m. Feb. 3 at the University of South Florida Theatre Center, 4202 E Fowler Ave. Taped auditions are due Feb. 14.
