Learn about all kinds of vehicles at annual event

It's all about kids and fun at the 12th annual Touch-a-Truck & Florida Clown Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive. At this free event, children are allowed to have hands-on experiences with virtually every kind of vehicle imaginable, from dump trucks, fire trucks, motorcycles, buses and power trucks to military vehicles and even a helicopter. Kids can watch the clown parade at 11:15 a.m., have their faces painted, bounce on inflatables, ride the train and enjoy delicious food. Wristbands are available for $3 for the inflatables and rock-climbing wall. Today's event also will include a children's health fair and a book fair. Free parking is available on-site. Park and ride the shuttle from the Pinellas County School Board or Largo High School. Park and walk from Largo Middle School or Largo Central Elementary. Call 727 587-6740. Club offering money to nonprofit groups The GFWC Palm Harbor Junior Women's Club will award a scholarship and grants of up to $1,000 each to nonprofit organizations that demonstrate service to the area. Now recovered, the athletic Labrador retriever-pit bull mix loves retrieving balls, but will slow up to give you a lick. Lester and other adoptable animals that have been at the shelter at least six months are featured at "Big Dog, Cool Cat, Sassy Rabbit Day" from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the shelter, 3040 State Road 590. The cost for those cats and dogs is $25 and $45, respectively, with spaying or neutering, shots and microchip. The free event includes pet care demonstrations, prizes and refreshments. Summer lunch sites sought Pinellas County Human Services officials are looking for recreation and community centers, school sites, churches and day camps to host its summer food service program, which provides free meals to poor children when school is not in session. Each site must be approved by the state, have not-for-profit status, adequate storage and refrigeration for meals and meet state and local public health standards.
