Hernando man is deligated for Special Olympics

Special Olympics athlete Mark Stry of Hernando will join 28 other delegates with intellectual disabilities in the three-day Special Olympics Florida Athlete Congress beginning Wednesday. The congress, now in its second year, allows delegates to recommend policy and set direction for the Special Olympics movement. The delegates will convene in the Capitol using Senate committee rooms and the Senate chamber for discussion and voting. Mental health advocate to speak The Citrus County Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 in the fellowship hall of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 439 E Norvell Bryant Highway. Guest speaker will be Don Turnbaugh of Palm Harbor. Turnbaugh , a well-known Pinellas County mental health advocate, will speak on "Successful Advocacy," dealing with strategies on how to obtain the area's fair share of state monies in the mental health field. Those with an interest in mental health issues are invited to attend. Animal Services has birds for sale Hunting for the perfect holiday tweet? Watch, accessories sale starts Friday The Citrus Memorial Health System Auxiliary will sponsor a watch and accessories sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the cafeteria meeting room, 502 W Highland Blvd., Inverness. The sale features fashion and designer watches, tote bags, fashion jewelry, purses, scarves, sunglasses, reading glasses, belts and wallets. Woman's condition critical but stable A woman who was beaten after allegedly telling her husband that she had an abortion was in critical but stable condition Monday, according to the Sheriff's Office. Angela Moore, 29, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with severe head and facial injuries Thursday. Sheriff's deputies said Robert N. Moore, 37, of Floral City told them he tried to kill his wife by stomping on her head because she had an abortion without his consent. On Friday, she was in critical condition. Robert Moore is in custody awaiting a court appearance on a felony charge of attempted murder.
