Dunedin graduate gets UF doctorate Ian Alexander Troxel, a 1996 graduate of Dunedin High School, received his doctorate in computer engineering from the University of Florida on Dec. 15. Troxel is the son of Elinor and Thomas Fox of Clearwater and Charles Troxel Jr. of Texas. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and computer engineering in 2000 and his master's degree in engineering in 2003 from the University of Florida. He and his wife, Angela Schaefer, live in Denver. College Goal Sunday is Feb. 25 LARGO - College Goal Sunday is scheduled for 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 25 at St. Petersburg College's EpiCenter, 13805 58th St. N. College Goal Sunday is a statewide program that provides information and assistance to students applying for college financial assistance. The program targets first-generation, low-income and minority students. Professionals from colleges and universities help the students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is required by colleges to determine aid eligibility. Dependent students should bring their parents' IRS 1040 tax return, W-2 and other income and benefits information. Financial assistance volunteers will be available to help students with the registration process. Sign language interpreters also will be available to assist the hearing-impaired. Volunteers needed for language day The Pinellas County School District is looking for volunteers who speak Spanish or French to serve as judges for its World Languages Field Day from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 17 at Meadowlawn Middle School, 6050 16th St. N, St. Petersburg. More than 500 students, teachers, judges and community volunteers are involved in the annual event, which celebrates language skills and cultural diversity. Middle and high school students participate in a number of activities that day, some of which require them to recite poems, speak extemporaneously or be part of a dramatic presentation in one of the event languages. To volunteer, call world languages supervisor Jan Kucerik at 588-6066. High school inducts six into hall of fame Clearwater Central Catholic High School this month inducted six new members to its Athletic Hall of Fame. The new inductees, who were welcomed during a halftime ceremony during a recent CCC varsity boys basketball game with St. Petersburg Catholic High School, are: athletes Peter Clark (track and cross country; class of 1980), Lisa (Mason) Woods (basketball, volleyball and track; class of 1979), Carl Cramb (basketball, class of 1977), and Vic Stephens (basketball, class of 1987). Former basketball and volleyball coach Nancy Polinger and longtime volunteer Edwin "Sonny" McCrea also were inducted.
