Man sentenced in shootings at McDonald's

Otis Lorenzo Neal, 20, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Dalshon Walton, 17, outside a McDonald's near King High School in November 2005. Neal was sentenced to 18 years in prison; he must serve at least 10 years. Seven years of probation will follow. The deal prosecutors offered also required that Neal plead guilty to three counts of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting that wounded three other teens.

Pit bulls' owner accused of cruelty

What makes a pit bull so mean that it would cannibalize another pit bull? Starvation. After James Daniels, a 22-year-old St. Petersburg man, starved two male pit bull dogs, one pit bull was so hungry that it mauled and ate another one, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. Daniels was arrested Monday on two felony charges of cruelty to animals.

Pinellas man jailed in firetruck crash

A Clearwater man was sent to jail after he crashed with a firetruck on Interstate 275 and fled, authorities said. Timothy Mokwa, 27, of 1121 Macrae Ave. was northbound on Interstate 275 near Hillsborough Avenue when lost control and hit a Hillsborough County firetruck parked on the shoulder, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Larry Coggins said. The truck, which had its lights activated, was responding to a minor crash. Mokwa drove away in his Honda, exited at Sligh Avenue, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A witness followed Mokwa and notified troopers. Troopers and Tampa police captured Mokwa at Waters and Rome. He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with property damage and driving with a suspended license.

Brothers robbed of PlayStation, cash

Two brothers were robbed shortly after midnight Tuesday by a man armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, according to Sheriff's Office report. John Young, 27, who lives at 38909 Coit Road, told deputies that he awoke to see his brother, Ryan Young, 22, come into the living room with a "freaked-out look" with a man behind him with a shotgun pointed at his head. The man forced the two into a bedroom, and took a Sony PlayStation and cash, the report said. The brothers described the robber as about 6 feet tall, with a beard and mustache.
