Dirt will be flying at the St. Pete Times Forum Friday when bull riders stomp through a nationally televised stop here on the Professional Bull Riders tour.

While bull riding got its start as a way for Old West cowboys to pass time, the Professional Bull Riders group now injects rock 'n' roll, fireworks and production lighting into an event that draws big money and big audiences, thanks in part to deals with NBC and the Versus network (the former Outdoor Life Network).

Some 45 elite bull riders are expected to compete in the Southern Ford Dealers Invitational at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the St. Pete Times Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa. Tickets are $21.75-$101.75 at (813) 301-2500, or Ticketmaster at (813) 287-8844.
