Sunday offers fun on sidelines

Super Bowl Sunday can be a great day for folks who aren't football fans.

While others pack sports bars and neighbors' living rooms, those who don't care about the big game can enjoy testosterone-free excursions to the mall, the theater, the theme park or lots of other places.

Even those who do want to watch the game can earn their seats on the couch by joining the family for an early outing and be home - with lots of goodwill - for kickoff.

Here are a few football-free suggestions:

- Sunday is the last day to catch the season's hot theater ticket, Spamalot, at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in Tampa. Performances are at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; $44.75-$80.75. Arrive early and catch the Spammobile, a 28-foot-long can of Spam on wheels. "Spambassadors" will be handing out Spam samples from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

- See the Latin Grammy-winning orchestra and dance company Tango Pasion perform Maria de Buenos Aires, the story of a femme fatale who tangos her way through men. Show times are 2:30 and 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center; $20-$49.50.

- Reggae artist Beres Hammond will be at Jannus Landing in St. Petersburg at 7 p.m.; 25-$30. 727 896-2276.

-In honor of the Tampa Theatre's 80th birthday, the Ruby Jubilee from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday will have a host of classic Warner Bros. cartoons, entertainment, a scavenger hunt, birthday cupcakes and more at the historic theater at 711 Franklin St.; $2.50. (813) 274-8982, www.tampatheatre.org.

- Instead of clogging your arteries with chicken wings and nachos, get some organic veggies at the Sweetwater Organic Community Farm's Sunday market. From noon to 4 p.m. at the farm, located five minutes from Tampa International Airport at 6942 Comanche Ave., you can get organic produce as well as plants, hemp clothing and "fair trade" coffee.

- Renowned jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal will be performing at Van Wezel Hall, 777 N Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, at 2 p.m. Sunday; $25. Toll-free 1-800-826-9303.

- See the mind-bending works of glass benders at the Arts Center's look at Seattle's best in "Behind Glass: Creativity and Collaboration." Dale Chihuly is the marquee name, but the others are worth seeing as well. The center is at 719 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Hours: noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

- Put on your bifocals and check out the last day of the teeny tiny art on display at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in Tarpon Springs. Sunday admission is free and includes a 2 p.m. docent-led tour of the 32nd annual International Miniature Art Society Exhibition. Sunday hours are 1 to 5 p.m. at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs campus, 600 Klosterman Road.

- Now's the time to avoid the lines at some of your favorite local attractions. Busch Gardens is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, and MOSI and Florida Aquarium will be open also. The Museum of Science and Industry currently has a "Monsters of the Deep" exhibit of prehistoric aquatic animals, and a recently opened exhibit at the Florida Aquarium features jazzed-up home aquariums.
