Familiar names lead the county

It has been quite a stretch for Art Rash or Susan Sheehy. These Citrus County bowlers have been on fire lately. Rash, who led the county with high scratch series last week, came in a close second this week with 790, but that was not the best part of his three games during the Wednesday Night Men's League at Neffer's Bowl in Homosassa. The veteran competitor also tossed a perfect game to go with his 235 and 255. The perfect game for Rash was his fourth since 2000, and the mark also accounted for his eighth U.S. Bowling Congress achievement in that span. Last week, Rash had a 787 series in the Wednesday Night Men's League at Neffer's. He had games of 279 and 278 in the same series. It is apparent Rash has found his groove the past month. His last USBC achievement came a couple weeks ago during the Tuesday Men's Handicap League at Manatee Lanes in Crystal River. He pitched a 290 game to go with a 738 series. Manatee has also been the main stomping grounds for Sheehy this season. Over the past couple weeks, she has been stellar. She threw the only 700 series for a female this past week during the Tuesday Gals League at the center. Her 760 series was more than 90 pins more than the next closest series. The spin is who had the second-best series. Sheehy was second with her performance in the Monday Night Turnovers League at Manatee where she racked up a 669 pin total. Sheehy's name was also peppered all over the scratch game leaderboard, with games of 279 in the Tuesday Gals and 277 with the Monday Night Turnovers. POZZI'S 299: For Mike Pozzi, a regular a Neffer's Bowl, it was another close call among many close calls. Pozzi, a veteran bowler, has come close to perfection many times, but the effort has only paid off once. Since 1999, he has three 298s and four 299s and only one perfect game. You can add one more 299 to that total after Pozzi received another bittersweet USBC achievement last week during the Suncoast Mixed League at Neffer's. He tossed a 299 to go with a 735 series. GOLF N' BOWL: The monthly Rizzo's Pizza Golf N' Bowl Tournament went off last weekend with the team of Dennis Brinker, Marvin Brigner, John Saltmarsh and Jim Randle winning by finishing first in bowling (857) and second in golf (6 under). Danny and James Mills, and Tom and Jacob Siegel were second by going 3 under in golf and scoring an 806 in bowling. Marilyn Seymour, Tom Robertson, Gil Oatley and C.H. Crockett stood third (6 under and 782). Closest-to-pin awards went to Randle, Matt Briggs and Jacob Siegel, and the high scorers in bowling were Briggs (232), Randle (249) and Siegel (212). Mike Holderfield was the winner of the free round of golf at Twisted Oaks Country Club. The next Rizzo's Pizza Golf N' Bowl is Feb. 18.
