Health screenings, crime prevention displays, music, games, free food and information about providers of community services will be offered at a family fun day celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Rainbow Village Public Housing Complex, 12301 134th Ave. N. The event is sponsored by the Pinellas County Urban League, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and Pinellas County Housing Authority. A special night for dads, daughters Largo's Southwest Recreation Complex, 13120 Vonn Road, will host its annual "Daddy Daughter Date Night" dinner dance from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 17. Get scuba-certified with this course Largo Recreation is offering scuba certification course starting Monday. The program combines classroom instruction, pool work and a boat dive. Participants must have a mask, snorkel, weight belt, underwater watch and booties. Wet suit, regulator, tank and buoyancy compensator will be provided by the instructor. Classes will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday and Wednesday evening through Feb. 25 at Sunshine Scuba. Cost is $250 a person. Call 585-0938. Army major to speak at club Army Maj. Kathi McDiffett, an active duty helicopter pilot stationed at the St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport, will be the guest speaker at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Belleair Country Club. Down's syndrome caregivers meeting Caregivers of Down's syndrome adults will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clearwater East Library, 2251 Drew St. The program will focus on hearing impairments of persons with Down's syndrome. Call Virginia Ruf at 797-0288. Flotilla offers safe boating program Dunedin Coast Guard Flotilla 11-10 will begin its next safe boating and seamanship program on Feb. 28. The program meets for nine sessions from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays until March 28. The program, which is held on the second floor of the Dunedin Marina Harbormaster building, 51 Main St., covers everything from tying knots to navigation. The $40 cost covers all materials.
