Marco D'Anto, center, and other dolphin experts conduct an ultrasound Friday on Castaway, a pregnant dolphin, at the Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo. Handicapped spots have stayed open

Many readers have asked what happened to Administrative Law Judge Elving L. Torres, who hears disability cases for the Social Security Administration in Tampa. The St. Petersburg Times wrote Monday that he regularly parked a Mercedes-Benz in handicapped parking spots, using a placard issued to an elderly woman. We can say this: Torres hasn't parked in any of those spots outside his office in the seven working days since the story appeared, and the Social Security Administration said he won't be. Bill DeBardelaben, the agency's regional communications director, said "appropriate action" was taken but could not discuss the specifics because it's an internal personnel matter.

Authorities arrest baby food bandits

Suspects in a theft ring were arrested this week, some while unloading the stolen goods. Jewels? Designer purses? Lucrative techie gadgets? Nope. Baby food. The theft ring stole $48,000 worth of baby formula from grocery stores, according to the Palm Beach Post. It seems Little Junior's dinner can be repackaged and sold or even used to cut cocaine. The theft ring planned to steal formula from stores in Hobe Sound and Stuart, an informant told authorities. Four suspects were caught Wednesday unloading stolen formula at a storage unit, authorities said. The other three were arrested Thursday.

Advocates for homeless onboard

Members of the Pinellas Homeless Leadership Network have endorsed St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Baker's plan to solve the area's homeless problem.

Judge: Give man retrial or freedom

A judge rules that Derrick Johnson's first trial was unfair because the defense was barred from delving into the sexual history of the girl he is accused of raping. Correction

South Pinellas parents interested in applying to the six attendance area magnet schools in St. Petersburg must use a paper application. A story this week contained incorrect information.
