In the classroom or around the dinner table at home, here's a hot topic to serve up.

The Grammy Awards

The 49th annual Grammy Awards ceremony, to be held Feb. 11 in Los Angeles, recognizes the best musicians in more than 100 categories. The TV broadcast focuses on pop music. This year, the theme for many of the leading pop nominees is comeback. Veteran R&B star Mary J. Blige earned eight nominations for her comeback album, The Breakthrough. The Dixie Chicks, who faced opposition from some country music fans for comments critical of President Bush, picked up five nominations. For the second year in a row, an American Idol graduate received multiple nominations: Carrie Underwood will compete in two categories. Can she do as well as Idol Kelly Clarkson?

Classroom/living room debates:

Who are you hoping will win Record of the Year: Mary J. Blige, James Blunt, Dixie Chicks, Gnarls Barkley or Corinne Bailey Rae? Why? Check out all the Grammy nominees at www.grammy.com. Did your favorite singer or group not get nominated? What makes their music special?
