Devil Ray's caravan stops at dealership

With the Super Bowl and football season behind us, baseball season must be just around the corner, right? Yes, and in fact fans can catch a little spring training fever on Tuesday as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' Winter Caravan kicks off in Hernando County. One of three concurrent stops the caravan will make from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday will be at Hernando Suzuki, 15265 Cortez Blvd., just west of the Suncoast Parkway. Expected to be at the Hernando stop are pitchers Shawn Camp and Jason Hammel, radio pregame host Rich Herrera and third base coach Tom Foley. There will be a live remote broadcast by radio station WWJB-AM 1450 in Brooksville, a Rays affiliate.

Annual passes to parks now on sale

Annual parking passes for Pine Island Park and Rogers Park are now available. The passes are $40, including tax, and are available at the Hernando County Tax Collector's Westside Office, 7489 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill, as well as at the Hernando County Parks Department, Room 260, Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. The Parks Department will begin charging the annual peak season $2-per-vehicle parking fee at Pine Island between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily Feb. 18 through Nov. 14. Rogers Park in Weeki Wachee will begin charging the fee in late March or early April, and will continue through mid September. For more information, call the Parks Department at 754-4027.

Tree City USA for 13th year

Brooksville has been named a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry. This is the 13th year Brooksville has received the recognition. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. The four standards to become a Tree City USA community include having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

Volleyball signup for adult teams

Teams and individual players can sign up for Hernando County Recreation's Adult 6V6 Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League. The season will start Feb. 24, with games played at Delta Woods Park on Deltona Boulevard. The cost is $200 per six-player team. Player fees are due Feb. 12. Spaces available for market vendors

Vendor spaces are available for the next Market on Main Street, which will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 17. The market is along Main Street, between Broad and Liberty streets, and in the city parking lot next to 31 S Main St. Vendors may sell a variety of items, such as antiques and collectibles, produce, shrubbery and gifts.
