D.S. Parrott principal to lead Spring Hill

Marvin Gordon has been tapped to succeed the retiring John DiRienzo as principal of Spring Hill Elementary School, officials said Monday. Gordon, currently principal at D.S. Parrott Middle School, has served as a teacher and administrator in Hernando County since 1975. Last year, he was recognized as a state "Turnaround Principal of the Year" for his efforts in leading Parrott to an "A" grade. "I bring to the elementary level an understanding of middle school expectations for our students," Gordon said in a statement. His successor at Parrott has not been named.

Waterways Council seeks members

State Rep. Robert Schenck has announced that the Citrus/Hernando Waterways Restoration Council is accepting applications for two new members. The purpose of the council is to review and make recommendations to help improve and restore the Weeki Wachee River and springs, as well as the Tsala Apopka Chain of Lakes. The council includes two task forces, one from each county. The Hernando County task force needs applicants who represent a scientific interest or are owners of a waterfront property on the west side of the county.
