Harris the county's lone D-I signee today

A stressful and arduous recruiting process will come to a close today for Central running back DuJuan Harris when he signs a letter of intent to attend and play football at Troy University in Alabama.

Harris, a 5-foot-9, 185-pound running back who broke the county's single-game rushing record this past season and finished with more than 1,600 yards rushing, orally committed to the Trojans last week after taking an official visit to the campus.

Troy has two other oral commitments from running backs, including Class 4A all-state honorable mention running back Ricky McGee of Tallahassee Lincoln.

Central coach Cliff Lohrey said the other school that offered Harris, Division I-AA Florida A&M, attempted to use McGee's presence to woo him away, but Harris is certain he will sign with Troy.

"That just motivates him," Lohrey said. "Any true competitor wants a chance to see how good they are. These guys who just want to know they are going to play, that's not a true competitor."

Harris will sign his letter of intent at 2:30 p.m. today in front of the Central gymnasium. He is the only player in Hernando or Citrus counties who will be signing with a Division I college today.

Last year, Central offensive lineman Andy Leavine signed with Florida International, where he started every game at left tackle as a freshman.
