Three hours before Tuesday's city meeting, City Attorney Alan Zimmet got peculiar anonymous e-mail: "Do you feel things closing in, Al ole boy? More to come tonight, I understand, at the commission meeting. I do think they are going to get you." They didn't. City Manager Steve Stanton read the e-mail during a discussion about hiring a consultant to look at various city programs, including the city attorney's role in the risk management program. "This conversation is becoming very personal," Stanton said. Zimmet didn't respond directly to the e-mail. But he said a resident and a fired city employee had made "untrue" allegations about him and his firm. "Our actions and the actions of my partners have been totally ethical, above board and in the best interest of the city," he said. Mayor Pat Gerard said the e-mail was "cowardly" and "disgusting," Other commissioners agreed, including Commissioner Mary Gray Black, who had suggested hiring a consultant to look at the city administration and city attorney.

I agree that the City should have been named. Especially since Mr. Zimmet represents several cities in Pinellas.
