Wine and food tasting benefit: The Greater Palm Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce's wine and food tasting event, "Evening Extraordinaire," is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa. The event features cuisine from local restaurants and samples of domestic and foreign wines as well as a silent and a live auction. Proceeds benefit chamber programs that include economic development efforts, scholarship funds and small business assistance. Women's Day Away Retreat: Kali Schnieders , author of Truffles from Heaven, will be the guest speaker for a Women's Day Away Retreat 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at St. Paul United Methodist Church's Christian Life Enrichment Center, 119 Highland Ave., Largo. Her program presents inspiration for meeting the challenges of daily life through examples of God's grace in her personal experiences. Registration before Feb. 9 is $25, and after that $30. 'Adventures in Opera': The Pinellas Opera League, in conjunction with the Marcia P. Hoffman Institute, is holding "Adventures in Opera," a series of six Wednesday programs from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the theater of the Marcia P. Hoffman Performing Arts Institute at Ruth Eckerd Hall, 1111 N McMullen Booth Road, Clearwater. The remaining programs are:

-Feb. 25: "Zarzuela - Spain's Operatic Tradition," presented by Madeline Crotty.

-March 28: "Legendary Opera Singers," presented by Blauner and Middy Larson.

-April 25: "Children in Opera," presented by Larson.

Weaver's Guild exhibits: The Pinellas Weaver's Guild has exhibits on display until Feb. 26 at Clearwater Main Library, 100 N Osceola Ave., Clearwater. Formed in 1946, the guild sponsors workshops with widely known instructors and sponsors the study of spinning, dyeing, bobbin lace, beadwork and kumihimo - the ancient art of braiding ropes, belts, ribbons and decorative sashes.
