A boot sale, you say?

It's the English version of an outdoor flea market, and a women's group at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church is organizing one to be held as a fundraiser 9 a.m. to 12 noon on March 3.

People who want to sell goods should register by Feb. 24, said Lesley Kidd, one of the organizers. It costs $10 per car. People can sell whatever they want, Kidd said. To register, call (727) 865-0931.

In England, automobile trunks are called "boots." A popular weekend activity is known as the "boot sale," meaning people park in a field or on a vacant lot, open their goods-filled trunks and start selling.

"Usually people bring a small table and put that in front of the trunk. If you've got a full trunk, you can be replenishing the table," Kidd said.

A bake sale and refreshments in the form of tea or hot soup may be part of the day's activities, she said.

St. Bartholomew's is at 3747 34th St. S. The parking lot has room for about 33 cars, Kidd said, so early registration is encouraged.
