Sugarmill Manor sets volunteer fair

A mini volunteer fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday at Sugarmill Manor, 8985 S Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19). Learn about volunteer opportunities offered at Sugarmill Manor and Hernando-Pasco Hospice. For information, call 382-2531.

Kids can learn to fish at Fort Island

Citrus County Parks and Recreation and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will present the third annual Kids' Fishing Clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Fort Island Gulf Beach Fishing Pier for the first 120 children ages 5 to 15 who preregister. The free event is designed to teach children responsible marine stewardship, ethical angling skills and fundamental saltwater fishing skills. Each child will receive a rod and reel upon completion of the clinic. Volunteers and sponsors are needed. Call Parks and Recreation at 527-7677.

Property taxes on senator's agenda

State Sen. Nancy Argenziano will host a public meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 20 at Chiefland High School to discuss property tax reform. Members of the Florida Senate and House of Representatives will be in attendance. Local officials are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Seminar to discuss joining work force

Central Florida Community College invites seniors to learn about Your Move into the World of Work, from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at the Ocala campus, 3001 SW College Road. Author Ed Kelly will discuss his book on re-entering the work force at the free seminar, which will be held at the CFCC's University Center, Room 111.

Authors to speak on World War II

Authors Steve Raymond and Mike Pride will speak about their book Too Dead to Die: A Memoir of Bataan and Beyond at 1 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Community Room, Central Ridge Library on 425 W Roosevelt Blvd. Free admission. Raymond is an Army Air Corps veteran who survived the Bataan Death March and more than three years as a prisoner of war in the Philippines and Japan. He lives in Lecanto.
