A man arrested with a group of people caught illegally entering the country in the southern New Mexico desert is wanted in Florida on a murder warrant.

Marco Antonio Salazar Uriostegui, 32, was booked into the Luna County jail pending extradition to Florida, where he faces a warrant for murder with a firearm in West Palm Beach, Border Patrol officials said Monday. He was arrested Sunday night with a group of 16 other people who were seen by Border Patrol agents using infrared technology southwest of Deming.

Floridians urged to be aware of bad weather

Florida kicked off Hazardous Weather Awareness Week in the state capitol on Monday.

"Given the recent events in (central Florida), it is very important that all Floridians learn about the potential weather hazards they may face," said Lt. Gov. Jeff Kottkamp, in a statement. "The activities this week are designed to further our goal of instilling a 'culture of preparedness' across Florida."

The week's events include tornado drills and classroom readings by state and local officials.
