Hospital will host event for newcomers

Oak Hill Hospital will host a reception to introduce newcomers to the community at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hernando Medical Office Building, Entrance C, Room 403, adjacent to the hospital at 11375 Cortez Blvd. Refreshments will be served. There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Call 597-6333.

Relay for Life panel will meet Monday

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Brooksville committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mount Fair Ave. A team meeting will follow at 6 p.m. The Brooksville Relay for Life will be May 4 and 5 at Hernando High School, 700 Bell Ave. For information, call Janie Wiley at 544-7098.

COUNTYWIDE

Library to show free movies at branches

The Hernando County public library system will show movies at the following branch libraries:

- Akeelah and the Bee, 2 p.m. Feb. 21, Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave., Brooksville. The film is the story of 11-year-old Akeelah from south Los Angeles, who competes at the National Spelling Bee. The movie is rated PG.

- Radio, 2 p.m. Feb. 22, West Hernando/S.T. Foggia Branch Library, 2335 Blackbird Ave., Spring Hill. Based on real events, this film follows the relationship between high school football coach Harold Jones (played by Ed Harris) and an illiterate and mentally challenged man named Radio (played by Cuba Gooding Jr.). The story takes place in a small town in South Carolina in 1964. The movie is rated PG.

There is no cost or registration to attend these movies. Light refreshments will be provided at both. For information, call the library program staff at 540-6391.

BROOKSVILLE

Want to learn to grow and sell blueberries?

A free class, "blueberry production for profit," will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 19490 Oliver St.

The class will be presented by regional specialized extension agent Stacy Strickland. Small farmers will learn the best management practices for blueberry production. Coming classes for small farmers include "vegetable production" on March 19 and "fertilizer basics for farmers" on April 16. To register or for information, call 754-4433.

PHCC offers classes on computers, CPR

Pasco-Hernando Community College will offer the following continuing education classes at the Spring Hill Center, 11245 Spring Hill Drive:

- AIDS Seminar, 6 to 10 p.m. March 13.

- CPR, 6 to 9 p.m. March 20 and 27.

- Basic computers, Internet and Windows, 10 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays, March 19 through April 25.

The following classes will be offered at the North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Brooksville:

- CPR, 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 21 and 28.

- Microsoft Office professional/ intro, 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, March 12-28.
