Youth programs, activities at the YMCA

Hernando County Family YMCA offers the following youth programs and activities:

- Leaders Club is a program for ages 12 to 17, organized to render volunteer service at the YMCA. Members plan and participate in activities that focus on leadership training, personal growth, service to others and social development. Teens assume responsibility for planning their own activities, including fundraising. The cost is an initial $20 fee and $3 monthly dues. Meetings are from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

- Junior Leaders Club is a program for ages 9 to 11, organized to render volunteer service at the YMCA or at school, and to plan and participate in club activities. The youth assume the responsibility of planning their own activities, including fundraising. The cost is $20, plus $3 monthly dues. Meetings are 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

- Beginner youth and intermediate youth guitar lessons are offered on Saturdays. The cost is $25 for facility members, $40 for program members per four-week session.

- Junior Arts is an eight-week program for youth ages 8 to 12 to create art projects based on art history themes. The program meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays. The program is free for facility members, $10 for program members. All participants must pay a $40 supply fee. Spaces are limited.

- Hip-Hop Dance is a six-week program. Movements are broken down so all levels of dancers may learn. A dance show will end the session. The cost is $40 for facility members, $50 for program members. A session for ages 7 to 12 will start in April. A session for ages 13 and older will also start in April.

- Tiny Tumblers is a class for children ages 3 to 5 that teaches basic tumbling skills. The class also covers work on body strength and coordination, as well as social skills. The cost is $30 for facility members, $40 for program members. The next six-week session starts in April.

- Movement Fundamentals is a six-week session that emphasizes the fundamentals of tumbling for ages 6 and older. Participants focus on strengthening coordination, flexibility, self-confidence and social interaction. The cost is $30 for facility members, $40 for program members. The next class starts in April.
