I am so sorry about your hiccups. My friend told me to open my mouth and keep it open without laughing or talking. just relax. Even better is when you hang your head upside down and open your mouth at the same time. I hope it helps. I will be praying
by Joel 06/05/07 11:23 PM
I was just looking at a way to cure hiccups. The one that I found on the internet said to breathe in as deep as you can through your mouth and then to inhale even more through your nose. That has to be such an awful experience, I'm really sorry... :(
by Annie 05/13/07 08:35 PM
Hi Jennifer, I see from the picture you have tried peanut butter, but the picture is of a crunchy variety. You must use only a very smooth creamy variety. I ONLY eat Skippy low fat. It has never failed me taking a heaping spoonful slowly swallowing.
by NormDoyle 04/14/07 08:50 AM
I've been curing hiccups for years. Take drink of "PEPSI". Hold it in your mouth and swish it through your teeht, like you would with mouthwash. Get it good and foamy. Swallow it quickly. The adjusted pressure in the diafram stops the hiccups instant
by Jerry 04/14/07 02:44 AM
Hiccup cure - Clinch a drinking straw between your teeth sideways. Pinch off your nose and sip water about 3 or 4 swallows and your hiccups are gone. Has never failed me. I am a registered nurse and used this technique in the emergency room.
by clint 04/08/07 02:46 AM
Jennifer,I have had hiccups for 12 years.I recommend exercise, heat to your chest.massage.reflexolgy for temporary relief. Good luck.
by Rob 03/29/07 02:33 PM
If this hasn't been done, try plugging your ears and have someone feed you a large glass of water - some1 told me that and it's worked everytime. Best of luck.
by Jenny 03/27/07 10:31 PM
she should try bending over while sitting, folding her chin to her chest, and taking very deep, slow breaths. It always works for me.
by Alyssa 03/24/07 10:55 AM
i think that i could feel sort of bad that she hasn't been normal for a long time , and i feel sorry for jenny.
by averi lynn 03/21/07 05:24 PM
Try standing on your head with your knees bent and holding your breath. it worked for me after having them for 9 hours!!!
by Brian 03/20/07 10:39 PM
Try Humming one tone continually aslong as it takes.

One tablespoon applie cider vinegar plus one tablespoon water. Slug down, hiccups are gone. Don't know why, but it works every time. Good Luck
by Laura 03/19/07 04:03 AM
Cure for hiccups: lie flat on your back, raise your head so your chin is resting on your chest.
by Angel 03/18/07 03:10 PM
My daughter developed persistent facial tics after a prolonged bout of strep. Have the doctors looked into P.A.N.D.A.S.? I hope she considers acupuncture(just make sure the person is a doctor). My sister had hiccups for days after anesthesia.
by Warren 03/18/07 12:57 PM
Take a thin straw (like a disposable coffee stirrer or a swizzle stick) and hold it between your teeth like a pirate would hold a knife in his teeth and while doing that, drink a 6-8 oz. glass of water without stopping. I know it sounds crazy, but ..
by Richard 03/18/07 11:40 AM
Many years ago, I either read or heard of an infant with chronic hiccups. A bright young Doctor proposed the idea of giving the infant "small" electrical shocks after a hiccup. A learned responce to the negative stimulation stopped the hiccups.
by NGUYEN 03/18/07 11:31 AM
General anesthesia with muscle relaxant can stop hiccups. Please discuss with an anesthesiologist for this treatment.
by Greg 03/18/07 12:41 AM
Swallow at the same time as you hiccup. It takes LOTS OF PRACTICE (and saliva) but once you get it, they will cease. You're using the same nerve path in the opposite direction. It even caused them to cease for me for over 2 years
by AJ 03/17/07 12:04 AM
There is an old Indian remedy for hiccup. Hiccup means someone is thinking about you. You should guess the identity of who is thinking about you. Hiccup will stop once you make the correct guess.
by mary ann 03/16/07 07:04 PM
I wondered if Jennifer has tried 100per cent cranberry juice as a cure for her hiccups. A small glass works for me and anyone I have recommended it to every time. NO cocktail juices.
by Shivan 03/16/07 06:43 PM
I would suggest, if she hasn't tried it already, to hold her breath and drink water, without breathing, then wait for 15 seconds before breathing again. If they continue, then I would suggest to do it another 2-4 times. Thats how I got rid of mine.
by Jeanne 03/16/07 06:08 PM
Take a dollar bill and stare at the thin side (picture of George Washington to the right and pyrimid on left. Stare for several seconds or a minute. Don't laugh it worked for us and we thought the person who told us to do it was nuts. Good Luck.
by Sarah 03/16/07 05:57 PM
Take in a really deep breath, plug your nose with thumbs & ears with index fingers, hold until you can't hold no more. Repeat until gone. At least it's worth a try, it helps for normal hiccupping, looks silly, but it does work.
by Ted (cont.) 03/16/07 12:50 PM
Costochondritis-thoracic pain associated generally with muscle use may mask PE. The emboli could have dissolved or temporarily displaced, thus presentation of symptoms occuring again on 3/16. Should be seen to consider anticoagulation/DVT tx.
by Ted (cont.) 03/16/07 12:46 PM
The associated chest pain from a PE may have been ruled out as associated from accessory muscle use from the hiccoughs and not diagnosed as a PE. The fact that she is 15 (I assumed oral contraceptive use, which is a risk marker for PE, DVTs).
by Ted 03/16/07 12:44 PM
I would be curious to know if doctors have ruled out a PE (pulmonary embolism) This is a common occurence in pregnancy and injuries, but is diagnosed in about 21% of young active patients that report to the ER with chest pain. (CT scan or V/Q scan)
by jaki 03/15/07 07:51 AM
i heard you can stick your index finger in each ear or draw a line along the roof of your mouth with a q-tip.
by james 03/14/07 06:26 PM
i can't believe i'm still hearing about this. all she had to do was to stop "chewing gum".
by donna 03/10/07 08:34 AM

by donna 03/10/07 08:31 AM
The worst is trying to drink something and the drink starts shaking and going over me.When they get quite loud they even make me jump as i didnt expect it.One of my sisters call me a nodding dog when they start but they are very painful when its loud
by donna 03/10/07 08:29 AM
Maybe it is because i am the shortest in my family and all the rest of them do not suffer as much as me.If one of my sisters get them i try to laugh at her but it isnt the same as i then start off on them again. My family laughing at me instead again.
by donna 03/10/07 08:26 AM
I suppose it must be abit funny seeing someone who cant sit still because of them but i wish it was someone else in my family not me.My family say cause i am short it is more funnier as i look like a jumping bear on a trampoline.PLEASE HELP ME
by donna 03/10/07 08:25 AM
I have had them on/off for about 10 years now.My sisters think it is so funny watching me hiccup that they turn the telly off as it is better entertainment.I sit there and am jumping off my chairespecially by about 2 inches i dont like it.
by donna 03/10/07 08:23 AM
When i hiccup i tend to be very loud and uncontrollable my friend says that i have never heard something so loud come out of a short person and then laughs.I personnally dont think that it is funny. When i get a break i then have a snooze to calm down

I get the hiccups all the time, and the only thing that has ever stopped the hiccups is some sugar under my tongue .After that try a teaspoon full of sugar and swallow it. It {hic} sometimes works for me. But usually I have to hiccup until
by Rachel 03/01/07 08:56 PM
My dad has this as a result of something called 'Barrett's Syndrome'. The Dr.'s gave him Thorazine which is a heavy tranquilizer. It worked. In my lifetime (I'm 23) he's only gotten the hiccups twice.
by Denise 03/01/07 04:03 PM
Stand on your head.
by Brittany 02/28/07 07:51 PM
I have gone through something similar though not as extreme. I have hiccups several times a day randomly and it isn't related to food etc. I believe it is caused by stress. Yoga or some other form of relaxing may ease the hiccups.
by ashley 02/28/07 07:00 PM
Get a glass of water, and when you feel a hiccup coming on, hold the hiccup as long as you can, and down the water. This worked for me, Make sure you down the whole cup of water, and hold it in until you down the water, it is kinda hard, worked for me
by ashley 02/28/07 06:46 PM
get a glass of water, and when you feel like your going to hiccup try to hold the hiccup in until you down the whole glass of water. Its hard to hold in the hiccups, but once you can hold one in, down the water until its gone.
by Kevin 02/28/07 12:46 PM
Same as "ginger", but instead of cupping hands over the ears, have someone stand behind you and place their index fingers in your ears applying enough pressure to seal the ear canal. As you drink a 12oz. water, a pressure increase to insure the seal.
by ginger 02/28/07 09:34 AM
this is a guarantee cure for your hiccups....someone needs to stand behind you and cup their hands over your ear.....not allowing any air to get in...while you drink a glas of water.....it has worked every single time..please let me know if it works
by Art 02/27/07 06:41 PM
You must relax the diaphragm so it won't spasm. Place a castor oil pack over the diaphragm and cover with plastic and a heating pad for 1 hr. It's a miracle! Also apply the pack to the vertibrae opposite the diaphram. And drink blueberry tea.
by Brooklyn 02/27/07 06:13 PM
I get the hiccups all the time. Try this. Squeeze your ear on the cartidge right above your earlobe . Hold it there for a few seconds. Mine went away in like two seconds. You can also squeeze your big toe at the joint. Hope it works!!!
by darryl 02/27/07 08:23 AM

by Berny 02/26/07 11:20 PM
I have heard that if you, get Eagle Brand Milk with 1/2 pint of whiskey and mix it up and give little sips at a time, that this cures the hiccups.
by Franz 02/26/07 04:26 PM
Sent you one about drinking water make sure your sips are cinually for ten second and make sure you squeeze your nose tightly as you are taking the cinued sips. Please let me know how you do. Best of luck...Franz
by Franz 02/26/07 04:14 PM
Needly to say it's worth a try to give you my own way of ridding the hiccups and it's worked everytime for me and I really hope it does for you. Take a glass of water , squeeze your nose tight and sip the water for ten seconds and put the glass down.
by Shawnee 02/26/07 03:23 PM
Let ALL of the air out of your lungs and WITHOUT breathing, CHUG water for as long as possible. If that doesn't work, then do the opposite and breathe IN as much air as possible, then CHUG. Hope it works!
by DIANA 02/26/07 01:24 PM
This remedy had worked for me for over 45 years and has helped anyone I have ever told to use it. You need a full glass of water. Drink it and force yourself to swallow hard and not breathing until you can not continue anymore. Clue (swallow hard).
by Aileen 02/26/07 12:51 PM
a pain management clinic recommends that your doctor give you pepsid plus a strong sleeping pill to break the cycle
by Sue 02/26/07 11:40 AM
Take a deep breath and swallow three times without breathing. The last one is very hard to do but do not take a breath. Good luck

by Mark 02/26/07 10:18 AM
My grandfather went through this on several occasions, once lasting over 2 months. A neurosurgeon recommended Thorazine and it worked. The drug obviously isn't meant for that, but curing hiccups is a side effect. He says it saved his life.
by Connie RN 02/26/07 10:00 AM
Jennifer, try the valsalva maneuver
by Connie RN 02/26/07 09:55 AM

by CharlesEugene 02/26/07 09:38 AM
I developed hiccups for a solid week while in the hospital. A nurse told me to try sipping water in rapid succession 17 to 21 times. I was completely cured. I pray it works for you. Good luck and good health.
by Mark 02/26/07 04:08 AM
Try a TENS device. That stands for Transdermal Electro Neural Stimulator. Most physical therapists will have one.
by Susan 02/25/07 11:33 PM
FILL A 10 OZ. GLASS WITH COLD WATER. DRINK IT BY LEANING FORWARD AND SIPPING CONTINUOUSLY FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE GLASS UNTIL IT'S EMPTY. THIS REALLY DOES WORK!!!
by Donna 02/25/07 09:39 PM
try eating a few green olives
by Kathy 02/25/07 08:57 PM
Do you ever sing, Jennifer? This idea might sound silly, but I really think it might help because singing promotes breath control. Why not try to sing some scales & hold the notes as long as you can? It just might work!
by Paul 02/25/07 04:04 PM
Have this girl drink a brimming tablespoon of apple cider vinegar all at once, keeping her mouth closed after ingestion and holding her breath for a full 40 seconds. Many can't hack this remedy, but has worked every time for me since I was 10 years
by nia 02/25/07 02:07 PM
JENNIFER...A TABLESPOON OF VINEGAR !!!! THEY'LL BE GONE
by Bob 02/25/07 11:01 AM
Works every time: Sit on the edge of a straight chair with a glass half full of water. Bend from the waist and drink the water from the top side of the glass upside down. Will work instantly if done correctly.
by David 02/25/07 09:05 AM
Karl by KARL 02/21/07 12:19 AM uses the same "cure" as we do when our little ones get repetitive hics: One teaspoon of sugar, all at once, swallowed--not chewed. This is from a Dr.'s Home Remedy book. Not tried with such a severe case though.
by siemenlin 02/25/07 12:40 AM

by Donna 02/24/07 10:18 PM
50 mg. of Larjactil This is possibly the French name. OR a visit to the Chinese Medicine doctor for Ginseng.
by Grace 02/24/07 07:50 PM
You need another person to help with this cure. Fill a 10 oz. cup with water. Place your index fingers into your EARS and wiggle them to cause pressure, while the other person holds the cup and has you drink ALL the water without stopping.
by Mark 02/24/07 06:08 PM
Has she tried putting pressure on artery next to the esophagus. I can stop hiccups on my daughter by applying pressure on this artery for several minutes.
by Marty 02/24/07 04:51 PM
Suggested by a doctor I know, try Chlorpromazine for stoopping hiccups. He took just 1 tablet (25 m) and had no more hiccups. This would have to be prescribed by a doctor of course.
by Bea 02/24/07 04:12 PM
take both your hands and with the pointer fingers hold your nose closed and with your thumbs lift the lobe of the ear and cover the ear openings take a deep breath and have someone feed you coke from a glass and count to ten. It has never failed.

Fill a glass with water, put a butter knife in the glass, hold the glass with your left hand, and the knife in your right with the handle against your forehead. Drink the water until it's gone, while staring at the knife.
by Sherri 02/23/07 09:16 PM
Did you ever try chewing on a Mint Leaf? The actual leaf itself. I have heard that way back when they used that as a remedy! Nothing beats a failure but a try! GOOD LUCK!!!
by Stacy 02/23/07 05:56 PM
My dad had hiccups for 3 days. I called to say hi and he was suffering so much. This is what cure them...take a glass of water and hold your nose completely closed while you drink 10 full sips of water without stopping. It worked for my dad!
by Harvey G 02/23/07 05:50 PM
Jennifer: Here's what works for me. I stand over the sink, bend my head forward until nearly upside down, and as slowly and calmly as possible drink a cup of water. This slows and modulates my breathing and stops the hiccups. Anyway, Good luck!
by Rob 02/23/07 04:36 PM
Two drops of ammonia in the nose or back of throat cured my grandfather's chronic hiccups. Consult a physician... but it was the ONLY thing that worked for him.
by Al 02/23/07 04:33 PM
She should try and apply pressure between her eyes above the ridge of her nose with her finger.
by Kayla 02/23/07 02:54 PM
I was shocked when I saw the story on CNN.com. I have a hiccuping problem too. It's not 24 hours a day like Jen's, but it's at least three or four times a day and it's been going on for almost a year. No doctor I have talked to knows what to do.
by Joanne 02/23/07 01:12 PM
I read in the local paper someone who had heard about your problem said to put yur left finger in your left ear (plug it) and drink a glass of water. It worked for my daughter but her situation is not like yours. Good luck.
by Teresa 02/23/07 01:12 PM
HAve you considered consulting a chiropractor? Hiccups are caused by a nerve and chiropractors specilize in the nervous system. It's worth checking into.
by James 02/23/07 12:37 PM
I swear by a few drops of Angostora Bitters (found at any major grocery store) on a wedge of lemon. The bitters and lemon juice mix is key. Bite into the pulp of the lemon and get as much juice as possible out of it. Has worked every time.
by Suzanne 02/23/07 11:46 AM
The only thing that works for me is eating green olives. I have never had more to eat more than two. Best of luck.
by Megan 02/23/07 06:59 AM
Have you tried tickling the roof of your mouth as far back as you can? Thats how I get rid of my severe hiccups. Mine are even louder than Jennifers but they last about an hour...not 3 weeks. I hope you figure out a way of getting rid of them.
by Renee 02/23/07 06:40 AM
my uncle had hiccups for 2 years and dr's. couldn't figure it out. Then they found he had cancer all over in his brain. They didn't know why it caused hiccups, but they couldn't stop them. I hope this has nothing to do with Jennifer, but maybe check.
by Dave 02/23/07 02:06 AM
I once had the hiccups for many hours. The way I personally solved it was: Fill a glass 1/2 way full of water. Begin drinking the water so slowly while doing the natural thing of holding your breath to avoid choking. Don't stop; it's psychological.
by Pete 02/23/07 01:21 AM
I stumbled upon this while surfing the net. Do a Google search for the following phrase "termination of intractable hiccups with digital rectal massage" It appears it has been used to stop incurable hiccups.
by Carlos 02/23/07 12:52 AM
While serving in the Army,Ihad the hiccups for 3 weeks. An army medic told me to throwa tea spoon of sugar towards the back of the troat, it will chock you ,they will go away withing 4 days,It work for me.Remember throw it so hit back of troat.Good Lk

I saw on Untold stories of the E.R. That if you place your thumbs just under your eyes-on the bone-and press firmly for about 10 seconds they go away! Good Luck I hope it works for you. I tried it on my daughter and it worked.
by Iron 02/23/07 12:02 AM
By a small Angostura(aromatic bitters) is is sold in any supermarket used to preper driks with. Put some dashes ove a lemom slice and suck on it. I used to have the hiccups for 3 days da most... now I use it, and it stops right the way...

by Rhoda 02/22/07 11:46 PM
cAlso you can go see someone who does refluxology, they can work on your feet and find the exact spot that causes the hickups..I was cured of a serious head-ache with refluxology. It would be worth looking in it..What about accupunture,it might help
by Rhoda 02/22/07 11:38 PM
Here`s another one: Try a small drink of Chervil seed vinegar...take one tsp. sugar with no water....Massage ear lobes, accupressure place finger in hallows behind eaelobes, press gently inward and hold for one second or as time allows between hickup
by EDWIN 02/22/07 11:18 PM
Jennifer do you know there is a force within us that can heal: Our hands can send radiation surging into the energy field of another persons. First drink 2 glasses of water .Relax watch TV now squeeze the joint near the end of your middle finger.

by Cheryl 02/22/07 02:23 PM
Has Jennifer tried thorazine? My husband had terrible hiccups for over 24 hours and his doctor prescribed thorazine. The doctor, and other doctors, told us "we don't know why it works, but it does!" Hope this helps!
by Chimene 02/22/07 01:43 PM
I do't know if this will work, it has worked for me numerous times. Say the word ELEPHANT over and over for a few minutes. Sounds crazy, but it really has worked for me and for a few other people.I am praying for you. Try anything. Good Luck to You!!
by Maria 02/22/07 01:43 PM
Idea from Today show that the phrenic nerve be surgically cut is ABSURD. Too few words allowed to explain the science, but GO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR. The nerve that controls the diaphragm comes from C3-5 vertebra! Google search chiropractic and hiccups.
by Donna 02/22/07 01:10 PM
Tell her to take 10 SMALL sips of water while holding her breath. Always works for me.
by Maurizio 02/22/07 06:17 AM
I advise one or two drop of tarragon oil (antispamodic) on a lump of sugar. The result is absolutely certain. It would be a pity if Jennifer would not try this way.
by lori 02/21/07 10:11 PM
have they thought of paralyzing the muscles in the area of the hiccups with botox. also the was an episode of House about a girl with the same problem-watch the epi8sode and try what he did
by Ed 02/21/07 10:08 PM
A shot glass of straight whiskey - drink it all at once. Guaranteed.
by Lynn 02/21/07 07:57 PM
Acupuncture! Just last week, my teacher, a Doctor of Oriental Medicine at East West College of Natural Medicine told us how he treated a man with hiccups. It took five days, but it worked! Somebody let her know! The school is in Sarasota!
by Bernardine 02/21/07 06:53 PM
My husband went thri the same thing he was told to put a glass of water on the floor then to bend over and drink it from a straw and this worked!!! I hope it will work for you
by Vinoda 02/21/07 06:29 PM
There is a seed called an Ajvan seed. You can find these in any Indian food store. To get rid of hiccups, you can chew them or boil them in water to make a tea. Also, eating white radish may help. For more info call 937-253-5148, I can mail them.
by erin 02/21/07 06:01 PM
According to your picture...is that "sweet pickle" juice? It has to be DILL!!!...try that, always works for me!
by Laura 02/21/07 03:45 PM
Okay, this may be a different approach: I've had trouble with leg cramps at night and heard that sticking a bar of soap under the covers would get rid of them--it did. None since. I think the hiccups may be a similar muscle reaction so give it a try!

Why not put her on a ride at Busch Gardens or Universal studios, like a roller coaster, or that one at Universal that launches straight up...maybe something like that would jolt her physically enough to stop it.

This has always worked for me and my friends and I have wanted a tough case to try it. I hope it will work for you. Simply stand and blow all the possible air out of your lungs and then cough. Stragely you will have enough air left to cough.

Hold your breath OUT - like holding your breath, but instead of taking a breath and holding it, you breath out and don't breath in for as long as you can. You can't hold you breath out very long, and may need to repeat a few times. Hope it works!

Hopefully she'll try this. Get 2 armless chairs and put them together. Take a big gulp of water and hold it in your mouth. Hold your breath, and lie down on your back on the 2 chairs, limp like a rag doll. When you can't breathe, get up and swallow.
by Bob 02/20/07 08:48 AM
This has never failed on anyone I've told. Take a glass of water. Sip and swallow as fast as you can continuously. It will take about 30 to 60 seconds and you will automatically give a small burp. This action causes the diagphram to stop its spasm.

Sloppy remedy works for me. Put a pencil horizontally accross your mouth and bite down with your back teeth firmly as you can so it doesn't move. Pencil in place, drink an entire 8 oz glass of water. Lots of the water spills on you but it works.
by Dale 02/19/07 08:24 PM

THE BEST OFFENSE is a lil' DEFENSE! Generally, without referring to a "quick" fix I've used my mind to rid myself of hiccups many times. I don't know many who do, but as a normal guy I've developed the ability to force the hiccup out. Odd but good.
by Melanie 02/19/07 07:51 PM
See a chiropractor. The nerves that control this reflex are found in the thoracic area of the spine. It never hurts to try the holistic approach first, and it is inexpensive therapy. Drugs should be the last resort.
by Angie 02/19/07 07:49 PM
When I have the hiccups I block my ears with my two middle fingers and close my nostrils with my thumbs and have someone give me drinks of water. Drink as much water as you can without a breath. I hope it works for you. You are in our prayers.

by David 02/19/07 03:39 PM
First, I am glad that she has had MRI's and CT's because incurable hiccups is often tied to brain tumors. Since that is ruled out, Thorazine is often given to stop them.
by Mihir 02/19/07 03:27 PM
Try holding your breadth for few seconds and while doing this, try not to think about the hiccups - basically you have to distract your mind from the hiccups. Good luck.
by Eddy 02/19/07 01:57 PM
You have to put ICE on the out side of your throught. Hold it until it goes away. (2 to 7 minutes) it may take longer in your case. Make sure the ice covers the whole throught. Good luck, Ed.

Sit down and close your eyes. Concentrate on breathing. Focus. Take a semi-deep breath and hold it for 20-30 seconds. Close your eyes. Now trace the image of a horse in the air with your finger. Slowly & steadily. Focus. Relax. You can do this.
by Todd 02/19/07 12:21 PM
When working in ICU several years ago, I encountered a patient that developed "incurable" hiccoughs. The eventual cure was THORAZINE "lollipops". The pill form did not work. Only the lollipops seemed to do the trick. Give this a try. Good Luck!
by George 02/19/07 12:11 PM
My housemate had the hiccups for around the same time and his doctor prescribed muscle relaxes to stop his hiccups.
by Dick 02/19/07 10:59 AM
A drop of chloroform in capsule form was given to my father when he had hiccups for days on end. The pharmacist told him not to tell anyone he had been given chloroform, but it was the only thing that stopped his hiccups.

For me and my niece, we put a teaspoon of sugar on our tongue and let it disolve without swallowing. It's actually difficult to not swallow - which is what triggers the hiccups to stop. It takes a good two minutes of not swallowing to make it work.
by Juan 02/19/07 09:21 AM
Home remedies don't work. I have had hiccups for a week at a time. Nothing works. Last time I went to the Dr. Unfortunately I went the day after they ended. She said Thorazine could work.
by Melissa 02/19/07 09:18 AM
You should try going into a church (not baptist) and getting healing through prayer. If that doesn't work you should try pulling your left ear with your right hand under your left elbow while holding your breath.
by Kelly 02/19/07 09:16 AM
Since while talking hiccups stop, try taking deep breath and counting as long as possible out loud then another deep breath and counting until the breath is used up. Out loud and continuously until maybe diaphram rests long enough to reset itself?
by susan 02/19/07 09:16 AM

The second one: Hold your breath for as long as you can while a person tickles your sides. The pressure of holding in the air while wanting to laugh it out will correct the problem and stop the hiccups. Of course only works if you are ticklish.
by Glenn 02/19/07 08:51 AM
There are two sure fire ways. I never get hiccups and I use the first one: Take a very deep breath through your nose, exhale through your mouth, force a swallow. You may have a small burp afterwards. Hiccups will be gone.

Bed: lie on your back, breathe in only when needed, exhale gently, repeat. Calm environment. Also, ask doc to try other breathable gases (soothing to nerves?) Even albuterol?
by Will 02/19/07 12:26 AM
I have had hiccups like that, for three weeks. It turned out the problem was caused by an improperly functioning valve at the top of the stomach, caused by a pinched nerve in the spine. Two visits to a chiropractor solved the problem. Good luck. Will
by Lois 02/19/07 12:06 AM
The Reader's Digest published this remedy quite a few years ago. A teaspoon of white granulated sugar swallowed dry has won medical endorsement, reported the New England Journal of Medicine, working immediately in 19 of 20 patients. Go for it Jen!:)
