The City Council will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Friday to discuss the proposed development order for Nature Walk, an affordable housing project slated for 31 acres on Turkey Oak Drive east of Citrus Avenue. There was some disagreement during Monday night's regular council meeting concerning the developer's timetable and guarantees for the project, which will feature 25 rental duplexes of affordable housing and 29 single-family homes. Officials with the city and Florida Low Income Housing were working out details Tuesday and hope to have a firm agreement in time for the Friday meeting.

Times buys three realty magazines

The St. Petersburg Times has purchased three real estate magazines to expand its coverage of the Tampa Bay residential market and begin in-depth coverage of the commercial real estate market. The titles are Florida's Nature Coast Real Estate/Citrus region, Florida's Nature Coast Real Estate/Hernando and West Coast Commercial Real Estate. The magazines are distributed at more than 600 outlets locally with additional copies mailed to investors, brokers and real estate agents. The magazines were purchased from the family of John Gonzalez, who operated the publishing business since 1992. The three magazines are published 13 times per year with a combined print run of 40,000 copies targeted to real estate buyers.

Protect business from check fraud

The Sheriff's Office is seeing more and more check fraud cases. It cautions business owners to beware counterfeit checks, especially payroll checks. Require check cashers to provide at least two forms of identification and keep copies at the store. Examine the IDs closely; they could be counterfeit, too. Be leery of checks, and customers, who are from outside Citrus. Don't be afraid to call the check issuer and make sure the business, and the check holder, are legitimate. Have questions or need more tips to ward off fraud? Call Detective Mike Kanter at 726-4488, ext. 224.
