Who determines the average monthly rainfall for the year, and how do they do it?
The National Weather Service uses rain gauges and other surface observation equipment, located at major airports here, it's at Tampa International, to collect the data. The averages are based on National Weather Service records covering 30 years. The monthly average is updated every year. The 30-year average is recalculated every 10 years.
