The City Council swore in two new members and appointed interim council leaders Wednesday. Newly elected council members Martha "Marti" Consuegra and Tom Johnson were sworn in. They replace outgoing members John Sullivan, who served for 12 years, and Marc Wigmore, who served four years. Also, Sophia Diaz-Fonseca was named interim council president and Jacquie Hepfer was named vice president. The council will make regular appointments to those posts in March.

Eagles stars of birding tour

The Citrus County Central Landfill will host an eagle watch beginning at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 24. Birders will be able to listen to a short presentation by Dick Blewett on bald eagles before the tour. The birding trail is hard-packed dirt and vehicles must be used. Carpooling is encouraged. Please bring binoculars or scopes. There will be several stops at vantage points where eagles, vultures, gulls and other birds may be observed. An active nest site is visible in the adjacent Withlacoochee State Forest. Participants also will be able to observe the landfill disposal area. An employee will be on hand to answer questions about the landfill. For more information, call 527-7670. The landfill is on the south side of State Road 44 about 3 miles east of County Road 491 and about 3 miles west of Croft Road. The address is 230 W Gulf to Lake Highway.
