Jury to resume today in molestation case

TAMPA - After deliberating for more than three hours Thursday, jurors did not reach a verdict in the case of a Palm Harbor businessman accused of molesting an 8-year-old on a Southwest Airlines flight.

The trial will resume at 9 a.m. today. On trial is Ronald Mays, 46, a vice president for InfoPartners, a Nashville company.

Mays is charged with one count each of abusive sexual contact with a child, assault and obstruction of justice.

Mays' attorney, Frank Louderback, called another member of Mays' company to describe what Mays was wearing the day of the flight, June 20, 2006.

Mike Reel said he remembered Mays wearing a golf shirt and slacks. That description differed from the testimony by the girl, who said the man who molested her was wearing a suit. Another witness said he was in a sport coat and dress shirt.

The description is significant because no one got the name of the man sitting next to the girl. Southwest doesn't have assigned seating.

What is happening today with molestation of an innocent child is purely uncalled for from adult men who are not mentally stabled. It is with such shame that this is frequently happening everywhere and without no morale shame.
