This Congress should be prepared to do whatever has to be done to eliminate the terrorist threat.
I don't care whether it is in Iraq, whether it is in Afghanistan, whether it is in Somalia, whether it is in Mogadishu - wherever it is, we have got to protect Americans from the threat of terrorism and from terrorist attacks.
Rep. Gus Bilirakis, R-Palm Harbor
The time has come for all members of Congress to put aside partisan feelings and work together, along with the president, to craft a strategy for Iraq that achieves the following: moves Iraq closer to a peaceful and stable democracy; improves America's security; ensures the utmost safety and best equipment for our soldiers; and provides the shortest feasible time frame for their return to their families.
Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Longboat Key
As someone who enlisted at the age of 18 and spent six years as a member of the Air National Guard, I can tell you firsthand that this resolution would undermine our troops' morale and diminish their ability to accomplish their mission. Passage of this resolution is also a dangerous first step toward cutting off funding for our troops. And that is something that I cannot support.
A question of morale, partisanship
