Hey, how about starting the week in a healthy way? You have a great chance this morning. At 9:30 a.m. there will be a special walk at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Gather at the visitor center parking lot, 4150 S Suncoast Blvd. U.S. 19. See the park and enjoy the native wildlife as you follow a 2.6-mile trail at your own speed. This is part of "Step Up, Florida - On Our Way To Healthy Living!" a statewide physical fitness effort. The Citrus County Health Department is helping organize the local effort.

Volunteer to help long-term recovery

Citrus residents who want to volunteer in long-term recovery efforts for victims of natural disasters are invited to a special preservice training at 6 p.m. March 1 at the Citrus County Resource Center, 2804 Marc Knighton Court, just off County Road 491. Jointly sponsored by Nature Coast Volunteer Center and newly organized Citrus STORM (Sharing Together Our Resources and Means Inc.), training will be provided by representatives of the American Red Cross, Citrus County Emergency Operations staff, area utility representatives and volunteers. For reservations and information, call Jim Davis, 726-9814, or e-mail storm.34442@earthlink.net.

Woman charged in purse-snatching

A purse-snatcher was followed by a witness who persuaded the thief to return the stolen purse after a foot chase, deputies said. Officers arrested a woman after hearing her story that she was coerced into committing the crime. Vicki Gail Armstrong, 27, of 3320 E Millwood Ave. in Hernando was accused of snatching an elderly woman's purse as she left the Dollar General store on County Road 491 on Saturday. A witness chased Armstrong for several blocks, according to reports. Armstrong ducked into a house, then exited briefly to hand the purse back to her pursuer. A deputy arrived and Armstrong told him that another woman hit her and forced her to commit the theft. Other witnesses said Armstrong followed the victim throughout the store and snatched the purse just outside. Armstrong was charged with robbery and is being held at the county jail, where her bail is $10,000.
