HUDSON - Pasco sheriff's deputies arrested a 41-year-old man Sunday on a first-degree murder warrant connected to last week's shooting death in Moon Lake.

Joseph Anthony Crawley was arrested at the Suncoast Motel on a warrant that accuses him of shooting Edward Neil Clark, 41, early Thursday morning at 10350 Lake Drive.

Clark was having financial problems and was staying at the home, which is owned by Crawley, said sheriff's spokesman Doug Tobin.

Tobin offered no explanation as to why deputies think Crawley shot Clark.

Authorities had been looking for Crawley since Thursday. As many as seven people were at the house when the gun went off, but by the time deputies arrived, only one witness remained.

Crawley was arrested at the motel, at U.S. 19 and New York Avenue, about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. A tipster alerted deputies to Crawley's whereabouts, Tobin said.

Thursday night, the sheriff's SWAT team had raided the same motel to search for Crawley, to no avail. Even so, Tobin said, Crawley had returned.

Crawley was arrested without incident and was being held in the county jail in Land O'Lakes. He will make his first court appearance today.

On Sunday afternoon, no one answered the door at the Lake Drive home where the shooting occurred. The door was padlocked.
